What's Happening
Our students are involved and active both during the school day and in extra-curricular activities. Be sure to visit this page often for fun articles and important information for our school community.
Success For All Reading is our Walk to Read program. Students have been assigned a reading class at their reading level. Videos, web-based lessons, fun activities, and take-home materials make SFA programs engaging and effective for students. SFA reading block occurs Monday through Thursday from 9:40 to 11:10 a.m. and on Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. This is an uninterrupted reading time. Every quarter we have a Read and Respond challenge. This quarter, students are working hard to submit 2,500 Read and Respond forms to dunk the principal in a dunk tank. Read with your child(ren) every day.
Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Here are six tips to help you and your child:
- Set out clothes, backpacks, and snacks the night before school.
- Label all sweatshirts, bags, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc.
- Memorize important names and numbers (for both you and your student).
- Read all school notices and note important dates/events.
- Ask questions that help your student to tell a story about their day.
- Communicate with your student's teachers about concerns or questions.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, feel free to talk to your student's teachers or the school counselor by calling (520)719-1230.
